Recently I ordered a new robot, the Pollen Robotics Reachy-mini, as a possible robot candidate for my Immigrant Mental Health Care project. I had considered other robots for this project but this was the most affordable (see Misty and Asus Zenbo)

My husband and I assembled it, and I thought it might be interesting to some of you to see parts of the process.

Once it was installed we could power it up, setup wifi by connecting to the robot’s access point and update using the settings site:

Thereafter we could try out built in functionality and different apps on the dashboard:

There are also various community created apps:

The HRI features which are important for the mental health care app that I want to build seem at first glance abundant:

There’s also a desktop app:

Next I am trying to get the python SDK working but I’m still troubleshooting that.
I will ask for help on the Discord community.
Overall this has been a positive experience. The robot is quite a nice compact model and very cute and has useful functionality. I’m quite hopeful that it will be a good robot for the mental health care project and even if it doesn’t work out its nice to have a cute new robot in the house again!
